About Marni

I was born in Chicago, and I lived there and in the surrounding suburbs intermittently until I moved to New Mexico in 2007. I have been privileged to serve great clients, to partner with tremendous organizations, and to meet amazing people whom I call friends. I think New Mexico is the most beautiful state and I am honored to call it my home.

I have been a licensed counselor for over 20 years, and I have worked consistently in the mental health field in various roles including therapist, clinical manager, diagnostician, and instructor. I believe the key to meaningful and effective counseling is connection and that empathy, healthy boundaries, and proactively engaging in my own mental health processes have allowed me to be fully present and attuned with my clients.

I believe that trauma is the precursor for many conditions including substance use, anxiety, and depression. Trauma comes in infinite forms and influences the way we perceive our own existence and how we relate to ourselves and others. The lenses created through trauma are distorted and affect our functioning in numerous ways. EMDR creates an opportunity for our brain to heal it’s wounds through reprocessing memories and creating new and healthy lenses through which we can view and experience our lives.

EMDR has been exceedingly meaningful to me as it changed my life in countless ways. As a client, it has allowed me to process longstanding trauma which had acted as a barrier to my inner peace and my ability to connect with my authentic self. As a therapist, EMDR has allowed me to live out my true purpose and to engage in work that aligns with my values of service, connection, and healing.
